Max & Erma's - Glacier Restaurant Group has purchased Max & Erma's from American Blue Ribbon Holdings and plans to revive the fast-casual restaurant chain, the company announced Monday.

The news comes just a week after American Blue Ribbon Holdings announced it was closing 13 failed Max & Erma locations, leaving the chain with 51 units in 10 states, mostly in the Midwest. The series had 106 locations as recently as 2008.

Max & Erma's Closes Reynoldsburg Location

"We are delighted to welcome Max & Erma's to our restaurant portfolio," Brad Ridgeway, president of Glacier, said in a statement. "It's a great brand with a tradition of being an integral part of the community each location serves."

Ridgeway said his company plans to update Max & Erma's into a "modern favorite" by investing in the chain to provide "the best possible guest experience."

"Our team is eager to refresh the product, bring it to first-time visitors and invite the community to relive the experience," Ridgeway said. "We are very optimistic about Max & Erma's potential."

This is the second time in five years that the company Max & Erma has changed hands. Fidelity National Financial bought the chain out of bankruptcy in 2010 for $28 million. He then merged Max & Erma's with Village Inn, Baker's Square and O'Charley's to form American Blue Ribbon Holdings.

Founded in 1972 in Columbus, Ohio, Max & Erma's is known for its unique artisanal products and local products.

"One of the most appealing things about Max & Erma's is their heritage," Ridgeway said. “This is a family-friendly restaurant where guests remember their childhood years and now bring their kids for homemade burgers and other great food. Our mission is to build on the foundation laid by ABHR and take menu innovation, quality control, community involvement and brand culture to the next level.”
